Sapphire HD 5770 FleX 1GB GDDR5

Most of the testing consisted of playing with the Eyefinity set-up without an active adapter, the Eyefinity setup was without any issues.

Conclusion:

This card will give you the the value of the HD5770, and you won't need an active adapter for Eyefinity. This could also be a perfect card for companies looking to run triple or quad monitors for their employees.

Compared to:

  • ATI Radeon HD4870
  • ATI Radeon HD4870 Crossfire
  • Diamond Radeon HD5770
  • GeForce 8800GTS G92
  • Gigabyte HD5770 SOC
  • Radeon HD 5550 Ultimate
  • Sapphire HD5550 OC
  • Sapphire HD5670 Ultimate
  • Sparkle GTX 260

Installation: Installation only requires a 6-pin power cable, while the Radeon HD 5870 needs two. The HD5770 Flex doesn't require an active adapter. It's recommended to download the most current drivers directly from ATI.

Performance:

In 3D Mark Vantage it was just below the reference HD5770 that had a somewhat higher result. Bad Company 2 slowed down in Eyefinity to app. 15 FPS.

Overclocking:

The reviewer did not perform any overclocking.

Sapphire HD 5770 FleX 1GB GDDR5 The moniker FleX can support up to four monitors in ATI Eyefinity by using three DVI connections where one is a HDMI to DVI adapter. The card itself runs at stock reference speeds of 850 MHz GPU core and 1200 MHz GDR5 memory.

Conclusion: Although this card is just a 'reference 5770' with a different heatsink, it has a lot of overclocking headroom and remains cool. Being able to benchmark @ 1 GHz for the GPU core is not an insignificant feature, and there was probably the possibility for more overclocking headroom. Using three monitors together for ATI Eyefinity with 3 DVI connectors is a nice bonus.

Overclocking: The GPU core was OCed to 980MHz and the memory @ 1360 MHz, that is 130MHz (15%) more for the GPU core and 160MHz (13%) for the memory.

Test Setup:

  • Computer Case: Hiper Osiris
  • CPU : Intel Core i7 920
  • HDD: Seagate 7200.12 1TB
  • Mainboard : MSI X58 Platinum
  • Optical Drive : LG DVD RW
  • OS: Windows 7 Professional x64
  • PSU: Mushkin 800 watt
  • RAM : DDR3 1600MHz Mushkin Redline 6-8-6-24

Compared to:

  • ASUS ENGTX465
  • Inno3D GTX 460 OC, Inno3D GTX 470 Hawk
  • NVIDIA GTX 480
  • PowerColor HD 5770 PCS+ Vortex
  • Sapphire HD 5850 Toxic 2GB, Sapphire HD 5870, Sapphire HD 5970 2GB, Sapphire HD 5970 Toxic 4GB

Benchmarks: 3D Mark 2006 Professional, 3D Mark Vantage, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Bioshock 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Crysis Warhead, Darkest of Days, Far Cry 2, Just Cause 2, Metro 2033, Resident Evil 5, Temperatures, Unigine Heaven Benchmark.
